The Oregon Area Senior Center is a multi-purpose center focusing on the needs of older adults within the Oregon School District. It is a department of the Village of Oregon with support from the Village, Town of Oregon, Town of Rutland, and Dane County. The Town of Dunn and the Village of Brooklyn also support us. The Oregon Area Senior Center relies on the donations of generous folks in our area as well as the annual fundraisers for our programming needs.

PUBLIC AUCTION FUNDRAISER SLATED FOR SATURDAY 11/5/2011
Everyone is welcome to bid at our biggest fundraiser of the year! We get dozens of donations from local businesses (gift cards, product, etc.), handcrafted items from local citizens, and more! There will also be a raffle, a pie sale and a live auctioneer! Beginning Photography Workshop—Fall Colors Fall is a beautiful time of the year to photograph the bright colors of the landscape in Wisconsin. This workshop will explain your camera’s abilities to capture the light and stop action in nature. This class is for any camera type (film or digital). You will need a camera with a strap (preferably with instruction manual), freshly charged batteries, and film or memory stick in the camera. Dress for the weather—first half of the class is indoors and weather permitting second half is outdoors. Two dates available: Thursday, October 11th from 12:45—3:45 PM or Saturday, October 22nd from 9:00 AM—Noon. Cost of the class is $20.00 and is taught by Kathy Esch of Prairie Hill Art Studio. Rubber Stamping/Card Making Workshop
On Wednesday, September 14th from 9:00—11:00 AM you can create 6 handmade greeting cards to send to friends and loved ones. Instructor Katie Johnson will come with 3 different card samples and you will make 2 of each design. All materials will be provided including envelopes and adhesive! Everyone is invited—there is no experience necessary. This class is great for unleashing your creativity, learning a new skill, meeting new people, and socializing while you create! Vision/Hearing Loss?
Do you struggle to thread a needle? Have trouble hearing the conversation around you? Has the type in the newspaper become impossibly small? Many seniors experience changes in their vision & hearing as they age. These changes can range from mildly annoying to frustrating & isolating. On Tuesday, August 30th at 1:00 PM the Senior Center is pleased to host a pair of speakers who will address these issues. Marshall Flax from the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired and Bette Mentz-Powell from the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will be here to address age-related vision & hearing changes. They will demonstrate equipment that can make coping with those changes easier and will also answer questions. If you have noticed changes in your own hearing or vision, or in a loved one or friend, this program can provide you with a wealth of insight & information. Join instructor Kathy Esch on Thursdays, beginning September 8th until October 20th (no class 9/22) from 12:45 – 3:45 PM and explore the many ways to mix color to improve your paintings and have fun doing it. Learn how to apply that color to your painting along with many other painting techniques in this 6 week class. Each class starts with a demonstration. Students may apply new techniques into their own project or work on the exercises. Cost of class is $50.00 and some of the supplies are included.
